Patricia A. Haines, known as “Aunt Pat” to her family and friends, 71, of Temperance, MI, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 13, 2017. She was born July 14, 1945, in Toledo, OH. Pat was the daughter of John W. and Betty Jane (Brooks) Klag.  Pat was the controller for Toledo Building Services for the last 33 years. Aunt Pat was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to her family and the horse community.

Her passion for horses started at an early age and stayed with her throughout her life. She spent most of her adult life volunteering countless hours to help improve the sport. She owned and competed top show horses for decades. She was treasurer and horse show manager for the Hunter Jumper Association of Michigan, treasurer for the Michigan Horse Show Association and served on the U.S.H.J.A. Zone 5 committee. She spent her life teaching people of all ages how to be true horsemen. Her energy, enthusiasm, generosity and dedication will be missed by many.

Pat was an equine nutritionist. Every morning, she delivered vitamins to dozens of horses that would nicker the moment they saw her. In addition to her love of horses, Pat also volunteered her time to those in need. One of her favorite projects was teaching adults to read. Later in life, she also enjoyed helping people stay active as the owner of Curves in Temperance.

She is survived by her loving son, John “Jack” Haines; sister, Judith A. Howard; nieces and nephews, Polly, John, Beth and Meg; great nieces and nephews, Henry, Laura, Jimmy, Christopher, Jada, Lydia and Ella.

A gathering will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. in Temperance. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. The family requests donations in her honor be made to either HJAM or Danny and Ron’s Dog Rescue.  www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
